Description |
---|
Without the capability to restrict which roles and individuals can select which events are audited, unauthorized personnel may be able to prevent the auditing of critical events. Misconfigured audits may degrade the system's performance by overwhelming the audit log. Misconfigured audits may also make it more difficult to establish, correlate, and investigate the events relating to an incident or identify those responsible for one. |

Check Text ( C-55711r1_chk ) |
---|
Determine if the network device allows only the IAM (or individuals or roles appointed by the IAM) to select which auditable events are to be audited. This requirement may be verified by demonstration or configuration review. This requirement may be met through use of a properly configured authentication server if the device is configured to use the authentication server. If parties other than the IAM (or individuals or roles appointed by the IAM) are allowed to select which auditable events are to be audited, this is a finding. If the IAM (or individuals or roles appointed by the IAM) is not allowed to select which auditable events are to be audited, this is a finding. |
